Join us Sunday, July 5th, 5-6PM for a new edition of “Talking God”

The topic for this Sunday will be “God and Social Justice”.

Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz is an activist, and author. Yanklowitz is the founder of multiple nonprofit organizations that engage in activism.  He founded Uri L’Tzedek, an Orthodox social justice organization. He founded SHAMAYIM: Jewish Animal Welfare (previously known as The Shamayim V’Aretz Institute), an animal welfare spiritual activist center.  In March 2012 and March 2013, Newsweek and The Daily Beast listed Yanklowitz as one of the 50 most influential rabbis in AmericaThe Forward named Yanklowitz one of the 50 most influential Jews of 2016 and also one of the most inspiring rabbis in America.  In 2020, Yanklowitz was named a “Hero of Dialogue” by the international group KAICIID.

Rabbi Barbara Horowitz Sheryll, LMSW is a life-long social justice community advocate. As a Town of Southold Youth Bureau Board member and North Fork Reform Synagogue Board member Rabbí Barbara has educated and organized numerous opportunities for youth to learn about social justice issues and to serve the homeless and those most vulnerable within the community.

As Cub master of Boy Scout Pack 39 she spear headed a community water drive for Ground Zero.  Ran food, toy and coat drives for local underprivileged families. Rabbí Barbara as a community liaison, for the North Fork Reform Synagogue and a social worker with Family Service League works with and supports the Town of Southold Anti-Bias Task Force and individually counsels and advocates for those most vulnerable within the community.
