Father Roy Tvrdik leads parishioners and friends of Our Lady of Ostrabrama RC church in lessons and discussions on the history of the Catholic Church. This week Father Roy teaches on the Council of Trent as discussed in “The History of the Church, A Complete Course”. This week we continue to discuss the Council of Trent which was convened to try and define the Catholic teaching and solidify the Tridentine Mass. As Father mentions the council period lasted around 18 years, with many interruptions. We learn about the role Pope Pius V plays at this time in history, especially in regard to the Battle of Le Ponto. We learn how Pope Pius V assembled a force known as the Holy League to push back the invading Ottoman Empire. Pope Pius V also requested that all Christians in Europe pray the rosary, as this would quite possibly be the end of Europe as they knew it. On October 7, 1571, the battle was fought and against all odds the battle was won by the Holy League. The name “Our Lady of Victory” comes from this battle.
