Join me this Shabbat Parashat Va’era, which recounts the first seven of the ten plagues in Egypt. The question is often asked: why ten plagues instead of one? One traditional answer is that justice unfolds through a process, through persistence and repeated steps. When the Torah teaches, “Justice, justice, shall you pursue,” the repetition reminds us that justice requires endurance.
