Rabbi Bill Siemers is serving Congregation Beth Israel in Bangor, Maine, and on the faculty of the University of Maine, where he teaches courses in Jewish history. Previously, Rabbi Siemers served Jewish communities in Philadelphia, Lexington Park, Maryland, and the East End of Long Island. He attended rabbinical school at the Jewish Theological Seminary

Rabbi Siemers is currently writing a book on Jewish approaches to astrology. As a scientist, he became fascinated by this mostly neglected area of scholarship when he realized that commentators like Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra, thought that astrology was less magic than science. Maimonides, at the same time, more or less ignored astrology because he believed it was stupid. Which is it?
