This month we will explore Exodus Chapter 24, a powerful moment in the biblical story. Just before the construction of God’s Sanctuary begins, God establishes the first council of elders—the foundation of what later becomes the Sanhedrin and the rabbinic tradition. At the very moment when the Divine presence prepares to dwell among the people, a system of spiritual leadership and justice is also created.
This Sunday we will have the pleasure of welcoming my dear friend from my yeshiva days, Rabbi Chaim Berger, who will add his commentary.
Rabbi Berger was raised in Brooklyn, Rabbi Berger’s family has been part of the American Hasidic community for over a century coming from a distinguished line of Hungarian Hasidic rabbis, tracing back to the Baal Shem Tov—the founder of Chasidism, Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, and the Sanz and Ropshitz dynasties. He studied in Hasidic yeshivot in New York and Israel. He lived in Monsey, where he taught in several Jewish schools and was active in the community for many years. Today he serves as the rabbi of a growing Jewish community in Casa Grande, Arizona.
